The Pendle Chartists

In the summers of 1841 and 1842 the villagers of Sabden climbed a spur of Pendle Hill to attend mass open air Chartist meetings. They were campaigning for political and electoral reform that would grant the vote to the working man to improve conditions of working class people. Ths walk will retrace their steps and visit the Chartists’ Well and the site of the hustings constructed to allow the meetings to take place. The walk will also explore the sites on the western edge of Pendle Hill associated with legends of the devil.
