Meet: 10:15 am
Start: Rivington Lower Barn car park by the cafe and toilets. BL6 7RZ
Walk Length: 7 miles (approx. 3-4 hours)
This walk looks at the sites linked to the 1838 murder of young George Henderson, a native of Dumfriesshire, who was fatally shot on Winter Hill travelling from Horwich to Blackburn. We will look at the last place he stayed the night and retrace his steps to the ditch where he met his untimely end and where the Scotsman’s Stump memorial has been placed to remember him. The murder remains unsolved so perhaps we can reconsider the case! The walk involves stiles, uphill gradients and boggy ground!
